Digital Mammography
What is Digital Mammography?
Digital Mammography is a technique that uses a computer, rather than film, to record x-ray images of the breast.
The advantages of digital mammography over standard film mammography are:
- Increased resolution and clarity
- Allows for faster, earlier, and more accurate detection of early breast abnormalities
- Provides improved contrast between dense and non-dense breast tissue
- Provides for easier storage and retrieval of images
- Images can be adjusted for clarity without having to repeat a scan
Do I Need a Mammogram?
The National Cancer Institute recommends that all women over age 40 get mammograms every one to two years. Mammograms are also recommended for women who have a family history of cancer, especially cancers of the breast.
