St. Elizabeth Hospital Hosts St. Amant High School Photography Exhibit

St. Elizabeth Hospital played host to over 200 faculty, students and family members, during a photography exhibit held on Friday, April 8. The exhibit highlighted the work of students in Darryl Babin’s Advanced Placement Art class at St. Amant High School. This is the third year that the hospital has hosted the exhibit.

According to Babin, students were asked to find “Art in Unlikely Places” as part of their mid-term project. Students had to identify and photograph seemingly ordinary things in an artistic manner. They were judged on elements of art including line, value, shape, form, space, texture, and color as well as on principles of design including contrast, emphasis, balance, variety, and unity.

Students’ photographs were judged by professional photographers, Candy Brignac and Charlie Martin. First place went to Kassie Foose for a photograph titled, “Golden Fuel,” followed by Alexandra Ehrman’s, “Spinner Bait,” and Lacie Hendricks’ “Boudreaux’s Buttons.”

“Although only three of the students’ work placed,” said Babin, “all the students are winners. The kids are so excited about the opportunity to show the photographs which they’ve spent a lot of effort in producing.” In addition, students got a chance to sell their artwork as copies of the photographs could be purchased. All proceeds for the sales of the photos go to the students.

“It really is amazing to see the creativity that these young adults exhibit in these photographs,” said St. Elizabeth Hospital President and CEO, Dee LeJeune. “I encourage everyone to come and view the students’ work for themselves.” The photographs are on exhibit on the first floor of St. Elizabeth Hospital throughout the year.
